Terms of Service
Last updated 5 October 2026
The short version
Theologos is a place to read the Bible, reflect on it with others, and follow churches and communities. Be honest about who you are, be kind, only post what you have the right to post, and we will keep the service running and your data yours. These terms explain the details; the Privacy Policy explains what we store and why.
Who you’re agreeing with
Theologos is made by Theologos LLC (“we”). By creating an account or using the iOS app or the web app at mytheologos.com you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the service. You must be at least 13 years old, or older where your country requires it for online services.
Your account
- One person, one account. You’re responsible for what happens under it and for keeping your sign-in methods safe. Tell us if you think someone else is using it.
- Your @username and profile must not impersonate another person, church or organisation. Handles are given first come, first served; we may reclaim handles that impersonate, are inactive, or violate these terms.
- You can try the app without an account (a guest account). Guest data is kept only on that device until you save your account; if you delete the app, it is gone.
- You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent (see the Privacy Policy for what happens to circles and pages you own).
Your content
- You own what you write and upload. Reflections, notes, posts, comments, photos, events and church pages remain yours.
- You give us a licence to show it. So the service can work, you grant Theologos LLC a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, display, reproduce and distribute your content where you chose to post it: in your circle, to your followers, on a church page, or publicly. Public posts, church pages, events and invitation links may also be shown on the public web pages of mytheologos.com so shared links show a preview. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies that others made through features you used (a repost or a quote of a public post) and for backups kept for a short time.
- You’re responsible for it. Only post what you have the right to post. Don’t upload photos, texts or recordings you don’t own or have permission to share. We don’t claim ownership of anything you post, and we don’t use your content to train AI models.
- Private things stay private: personal notes, highlights, saved verses and reading positions are visible only to you, and we only look at them when you ask us to (for example, a support request).
Community rules
Theologos exists for study, reflection and encouragement across Christian traditions. Don’t use it to:
- Harass, threaten, demean or bully anyone, or target people because of who they are.
- Post hateful, sexually explicit, violent or illegal content, or content that endangers minors.
- Spam: bulk posting, unsolicited promotion, fake engagement, or automated posting.
- Impersonate a person, a church or a ministry, or claim to speak for one without authority.
- Post other people’s personal data without their consent.
- Break the service: probing, scraping, circumventing rate limits or access controls, or interfering with other people’s use.
Disagreement between traditions is welcome when it is respectful. Fundraising links (for example for a church project) are allowed on church pages and must be honest about who receives the money.
Reports, blocks and moderation
- Anyone can block a person or report a post, comment, event, church page or profile. Blocking hides you from each other; reports go to our moderators.
- Circle leaders may remove posts and members from their circle. Church page admins may remove comments on their page’s posts.
- We may remove content, decline or revoke verification, hide or unpublish a page, or suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms or the law, with or without notice depending on severity. A suspended account can still read and delete its own data.
- We are not obliged to monitor content, and we may keep records of reports and enforcement for a limited time.
Church pages and circles
- Anyone may create a church page. New pages stay hidden from discovery until an admin approves them. A verified mark means we checked, to a reasonable degree, that the page is run by the church it names; verification is at our discretion and may be withdrawn.
- Page admins are responsible for what the page publishes: posts, events, service times, live streams and the circles it owns. The owner may add and remove editors and transfer ownership.
- Circle leaders set the week’s reading, approve join requests and moderate the circle. Private circles are visible by name only; their content is for members.
- If an account is deleted, circles it owned pass to the longest-standing member or close, and pages it owned pass to another admin or are removed, as described in the Privacy Policy.
Events
Events are listed and organised by their hosts (church pages). We only carry the listing, RSVPs, waitlists and check-ins; we are not a party to the event and are not responsible for it taking place, its safety, or its content. Reminders are a convenience and may be delayed.
Third-party content
- The Bible text is the King James Version, in the public domain.
- Church locations from OpenStreetMap are © OpenStreetMap contributors, under the ODbL licence, and may be incomplete or out of date.
- Live streams are YouTube videos embedded from the church’s channel; YouTube’s terms apply when you watch them.
- The daily church calendar comes from orthocal.info. Links people post lead to sites we do not control.
The service
- We may change, add or remove features, and we may stop offering the service with reasonable notice. TestFlight builds are pre-release software and may have bugs.
- The service is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We do not guarantee it will be available, error-free or that content is accurate or theologically endorsed by anyone.
- To the extent the law allows, Theologos LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (currently nothing — Theologos is free). Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for our fraud or gross negligence, and consumers keep the rights their local law gives them.
- Theologos is free today. If we ever introduce paid features, we will say so clearly before you pay anything.
Ending things
You can stop using Theologos and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or if we stop the service. Sections about your content licence (for content already shared), liability and governing law survive.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For material changes we will update the date above and tell you in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use Theologos after that means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the place where Theologos LLC is established, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections you have where you live. If a part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
Apple
If you use the iOS app, Apple is not a party to these terms and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
